If you’ve recently spent any time roaming around for fall essentials (or on Instagram, while we’re at it), chances are you’ve seen a pattern –literally and figuratively. As it is the case with every season, there’s always that one trend that seems to be the golden thread through all shops and brands. By now it’s pretty clear that this Fall, grey plaid (and especially gray plaid suits) are taking over the reigns. Checks and gingham first made appearances during runway season earlier this year, and with my unwavering love for all things Alexander Wang, you best believe I was sold on the spot. Be it oversized and boxy cuts or form-fitted suits, almost every major label incorporated the trend, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that high-street labels jumped on the bandwagon.
Blazers, coats, pants and skirts – the infatuation is real. And if you’re anything like me, you want them all and you want them now. Lucky for you, I did some scouting for all of us and rounded up my favorite pieces to wear this fall:
A while ago I owned an overwhelming amount of black skirts, but apparently I went a little overboard on the last few wardrobe culls as recently I found myself with none. This is not a good place to be, it’s like not owning a pair of jeans, completely impractical. So I’m working on sorting myself out, starting with this Elizabeth and James number. I love the zip details on it, they really jazz up the old pencil skirt – which is in need of a little jazz.
It’s been a while since I found a piece and declared that it’s my most favourite thing I’ve ever bought (which is surprising as I love a good swooping declaration) but here it is, the Butter Cup Ruched crop from Ellery. I first saw this top on Olivia Palermo in the campaign she shot for Miss Vogue, it looked amazing, but if I bought everything that looked amazing on that girl I’d be surviving off water and sunshine. As I’ve mentioned in the past shopping, for an “occasion outfit” is not my strong point, not because I have a problem with the shopping part, but rather the concept of finding one perfect outfit for one specific event. My indecisiveness never fails to lend its hand in making this whole process a painfully drawn out event. This time however Ellery prevailed!
I wore the crop and these also amazing Ellery dress paints for the second engagement party my fiancé and I had. I was initially inclined to pair it with a skirt but as we were headed home for Christmas in Canada I opted for the pants. FYI – regardless of the pants, a crop top is not appropriate attire for the Canadian winter… but what actually goes well with −35 degrees and blizzards? The correct answer to this is nothing.
Moving on, in normal weather this top is pleasingly versatile, which will make it easy to wear on multiple occasions regardless of it being a statement piece. But the obvious reason as to why I love it so much is simply the design – beautifully draped and perfectly tailored, it doesn’t get any better.
About a month ago I had the incredible opportunity to shoot with STYLEDby for their November Issue. It was such a pleasure to work with the STYLEDby team and step outside my usual routine of shooting in side streets and back alleyways. I use the term work loosely at it was really just a day of dress ups and fun with remarkably talented people and amazing clothes. If only more days could be like this!
We shot four looks for the month, starting with this beautiful House of Elsmore ensemble paired with the Kate Sylvester bralette. I love this Gatsby inspired look, so delicate and feminine but still with an edge.
